InMusic, the parent company of Alesis, Akai, and several other music instrument brands, has acquired sampled-drum instrument BFD from London-based tech company FXpansion.

Established in 2003, BFD is globally recognized as a revolutionary acoustic drum software instrument with studio-quality, multi-channel drums. Since its founding, BFD has continuously expanded its library of expansions packs, leading the software instrument to become one of the world’s largest and most flexible collections of acoustic drum samples on the market.

BFD and its entire engineering department will now become part of inMusic’s research and development team, bringing their specialized knowledge and expertise, which will be supported by the resources and IP of the entire inMusic group.

“Our optimism for the future knows no bounds and we’re very excited to welcome the entire BFD team as part of our family of companies,” said Jack O’Donnell, CEO of inMusic.

“We believe inMusic will bring unique value to the BFD community through its extraordinary expertise in both drum software and hardware development,” said Roland Lamb, founder and CEO of FXpansion’s parent company ROLI.

In addition to Alesis and Akai, inMusic is the parent company for several music technology and consumer electronic brands, including AIR Music Technology, Alto Professional, Denon DJ, Denon Professional, HeadRush, ION Audio, M-Audio, Marantz Professional, MARQ Lighting, MixMeister, Numark, Rane, SONiVOX and SoundSwitch.
