US distributor RBI Music introduced new cajons and congas made by A Tempo Percussion in Lima, Peru, at this year’s Winter NAMM. According to RBI Music’s executive vice president of sales and marketing, Lane Davy, A Tempo’s newest cajon incorporates a fine-tuning system, which allows the user to individually tune each of the included snare wires. The new conga drums are made from solid staves and feature low-contact hardware that minimizes muting of the drumhead or the wood shell. Plus, Alexis Castaneda, owner and founder of A Tempo Percussion, also introduces these instruments en Español, and percussionist/bandleader Carlos Adames of the Milwaukee-based Carlos Adames Group demonstrates the sounds of A Tempo’s congas, bongos, and cajons.
