Presidents Of The United States Of America

Jason Finn has had a truly eclectic music career. While much of his drumming career was devoted to playing with goofy punk rockers The Presidents Of The United States Of America, he also spent time with the grunge rock band Skin Yard and psychedelic grunge rockers Love Battery. From 1986–’87 Finn lent his drumming skills to the Seattle, Washington band Skin Yard, which was a contemporary of bands like Soundgarden and The Melvins. He moved on after only playing with the band for eight months, joining Love Battery in 1989. Finn played with the band throughout the early ’90s, but eventually devoted himself fully to the newly formed The Presidents Of The United States Of America.

The Presidents were officially formed in 1993 by Chris Ballew, Dave Dedererb and Finn, and played their first show together by December of that same year. In 1994 the band released their self-titled debut on PopLlama records, but were quickly signed by Columbia after the album received positive attention. The singles “Lump,” “Peaches,” and “Kitty” became huge hits, thrusting the band into the mainstream rock scene. In 1996 they released their second album, II, which did not gain as much praise as their previous work. In support of these two albums The Presidents toured across the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and Japan. The band eventually broke up in 1997, but later reunited in 2000 and released a third album, Freaked Out And Small, following that up with 2004’s Love Everybody and their most recent, 2008’s These Are the Good Times People.

Within each of The President’s albums, Finn plays very simple and catchy beats, always featuring his trademark 13″ Sabian El Sabor splashes. While he has played with a number of bands throughout his career, his work with The Presidents is his most well known to date and best illustrates his fun and poppy drumming style.
