Gretsch Drums is introducing four new finishes to three of its drum set series, Zildjian has announced a new dry prepack and an addition to its low-volume cymbal line, and Alesis has released a budget-friendly mesh-head electronic drum set.
Gretsch Debuts New Drum Finishes
Gretsch Drums has announced the addition of several durable Nitron laminates to its Catalina Club, Renown and Gretsch Energy series drum sets. The Gretsch Catalina Club 4-piece jazz configuration is now available in Blue Satin Flame, Renown Series drumsets are now available in “big flake” Turquoise Sparkle and Copper Sparkle finishes, and the Gretsch Energy series sets now include a Ruby Sparkle finish option.
Catalina Club 4-piece configurations are built around a 14” deep bass drum that delivers a warm, punchy vintage tone with classic mahogany shells and 30-degree bearing edges.
The Renown series features the classic 7-ply Gretsch formula maple shells, with 30-degree bearing edges and exclusive “Silver Sealer” interiors and Gretsch’s player-friendly “302” hoop.
The Energy series features 7-ply poplar shells with 30-degree bearing edges and are equipped with 1.6mm triple flanged hoops.
Zildjian Releases K Custom Dry Pack And L80 China Cymbal
Zildjian announced this month it is releasing a select assortment of five Special Dry cymbals in a new K Custom series prepack, as well as an 18″ China cymbal addition to its low-volume L80 practice cymbal line.
K Custom Special Dry cymbals are “raw and earthy, and have a dry, funky sound with a quick, fast attack and lots of dirt,” says Zildjian. The set includes 14” hi-hats (thin top, heavy bottom), 16” and 18″ crashes, and 21” ride. Big Z says the set is “ideal for drummers who play hip-hop, funk, gospel and R&B.”
“This Set gives drummers a great collection of cymbals that capture today’s music trends,” says Victor Filonovich, category manager for Ziljdian cymbals.
The L80 China provides all the effects of a traditional China but without all the volume. And like the rest of Zildjian’s L80 low volume line, the 18” L80 China is 80 percent quieter than a traditional cymbal, but without sacrificing too much of the feel of a real cymbal. The L80 China can stack with the L80 14” crash and L80 10” splash for even more effects.
