The Waves Torque plug-in (price TBA) from Waves Audio can adjust the pitch of a recorded drum track to a specific key in increments of +/- 1200 cents, without adding sonic artifacts and without losing a drum sound’s body, timbre, resonance, or attack. Waves Torque is offered as an alternative to retriggering and replacing problematic drum sounds. It can enhance and change the tones of snares, toms, bass drums, or an entire drum set in a mix, promising natural-sounding results that go beyond the capabilities of pitch shifters.
Driven by Waves’ Organic ReSynthesis technology, Torque detects and analyzes the drums’ formant, amplitude and carrier information, reassembles it, and allows users to manipulate the tonal and pitch characteristics, all while preserving the natural attack, resonance, and duration of the original sound.
With intuitive controls and a reported zero latency, Torque is useful in the studio as well as for live shows, where front-of-house engineers will have the ability to re-pitch problematic drum tone in the middle of a show or a song.
Waves Torque Drum Tone Shifter offers a Focus section for precise formant/frequency control, as well as threshold and trim controls, and promises zero latency.
