Progressive death metal band Uncured released its first full-length record, Medusa, earlier this year, which the website Metalsucks.net described as “a synthesis of all manner of melodic, progressive, technical metal — Dream Theater, Opeth, et al — mixed with a groovy, almost tribal approach trafficked by ’90s stalwarts like Sepultura and Fear Factory.” Brothers Rex Cox and Zak Cox, both guitarists and vocalists, founded Uncured in 2015, and wrote all of the material on Medusa. The Cox brothers team up with band mates Jon Kita on bass and Liam Manley on drums.

Manley hails from Portland, Oregon, and has 13 years of experience playing drums, including five years of professional session work with various artists across the U.S. He offers this video tutorial, which is exclusive to Drum Magazine, about his parts on the song “Stygian Pit” from the Medusa album.

You can catch Manley live with Uncured beginning in one week with the following tour dates.
