NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series is a great way to see your favorite artists in a new setting, and maybe get to fall in love with them all over again in a totally different way. It’s also a great way to find your next favorite artist. This 2016 performance from Anderson .Paak fits into both of those categories. The soul, hip-hop and funk drummer, singer, and songwriter has exploded onto the scene in the past few years, and for good reason. His musicianship is top notch, and his playing drips personality. Just check out the quiet intensity of this performance, where he plays with tea towel and half a wallet on the snare. It’s not easy to play so quietly and still manage to wring out the dynamics to drive a song and keep it interesting start to finish, but .Paak does it with ease. Oh, and he sings too, which seems like no big deal for this ultra-talented 32-year-old.

And in case you were wondering, yes, he also knows how to rock out. Enjoy!
