This morning (December 5, 2017), Drum Magazine received the news that Simon Phillips is cancelling the remaining dates of his current US tour in support of his newest album, Protocol 4, including this weekend’s dates in Chicago, due to the sudden loss of his home in Ventura County, California. Phillips’ home burned to the ground during the night of December 4 as a result of the fast-moving, wind-fueled Thomas Fire.

At the time that the wildfire destroyed his house, Phillips was performing in New York City’s Iridium Jazz Club with his band Protocol 4 (pictured with Phillips, above).

Reports have stated that the wildfire has burned 45,500 acres, destroying homes and forcing 27,000 people to evacuate while firefighters attempt to contain it. As of 8 A.M., the Thomas Fire has already covered 70 square miles.

Phillips had already completed a successful tour of Europe, which began on October 26 and wrapped up on December 2, and had just kicked off the U.S. leg last night.

Purchasing Phillips’ newest album will help to support him at this time. Protocol 4 is available for purchase from Amazon.com
