Watch Stewart Copeland perform “Next To You,” from the 1978 album Outlandos d’Amour, with The Police on the BBC music series The Old Grey Whistle Test.

Julien’s Auctions held its Music Icons 2017 auction at Hard Rock Cafe New York in Times Square on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Two lots that are of specific interest to drummers drew winning bids of six figures: Stewart Copeland’s highly recognizable blue Tama ImperialStar drum set that he played on stage and in the studio with The Police beginning in 1976 received a winning bid of $121,600, while Michael Shrieve’s 1967 Ludwig drum set, the very kit that he played with Santana in August 1969 at the Woodstock Music & Art Fair (and as seen in Shrieve’s drum solo for “Soul Sacrifice” at the 1970 Woodstock movie), brought in a winning bid of $187,500.
