With permanent theatrical productions in New York, Las Vegas, Boston, Chicago, Orlando, Berlin and a World Tour, Blue Man Group has become a household name globally. Blue Man Group’s Drum-Off events are happening across the country. This year, New York joins the Drum-Off event success with its first-ever Drum-Off in partnership with Astor Alive! Festival on September 23 (the online submission period closed on August 27). One week later, Boston will host their fourth annual Drum-Off on September 30 at the Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival. Online submissions for the Boston event will close on September 11, 2017.

The Drum-Off event is Blue Man Group’s search for the best drummer. The competition is a way to engage Blue Man Group communities and for cities to showcase local talent. Drummers are asked to upload a 1- to 2-minute solo jam session to YouTube or Vimeo with the hashtags #BlueManDrumOff and #Contest, and then submit a link to the video on the entry form on Blue Man Group’s website. From there, a selection panel made up of Blue Man Group musicians and Blue Men will select a group of semi-finalists. A group of finalists will then be selected and will perform at the main event where the best drummer will be crowned and awarded.

Boston and Orlando both started the ball rolling four years ago with the first Blue Man Group Drum-Off events. The success, excitement and support of the communities surrounding these events led Blue Man Group Las Vegas to host their first-ever Drum-Off last year at Downtown Container Park with special guest judge Ronnie Vannucci Jr. of rock band The Killers.
